As reported by WhatsApp, some Android, iPhone and KaIOS cell phones “will no longer receive updates.” This means that they will not be able to have the messaging service on their devices.
The rapid pace of technology and the models that will not have WhatsApp in 2021
Smartphones and apps are constantly changing. This is because the technologies involved evolve and the versions follow one another at an increasingly rapid rate.
Certain devices and their “brains” (or operating systems) become obsolete to support some apps or programs when technologies change and this is the reason behind this restriction.
Thus, on Android phones, the app will remain active for computers with an operating system from version 4.0.3 and on iPhone from version iOS 9 onwards.
If it is older operating systems, they will not support the instant chat application updates that WhatsApp offers.
This will reach models like iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, and Motorola Droid Razr.
It will no longer work on phones with KaiOS 2.5.1 operating systems or equipment such as the JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
These measures are questioned by sectors dedicated to protecting the environment and reducing pollution: the more equipment is obsolete, the more new models are sold. Thus, the consumer bubble and a cycle that seems to have no end continue to generate waste and negative impacts on societies and the economy.
They will remain active
The application will continue to work normally on Android mobile phones with operating systems from 4.0.3 onwards that receive SMS text messages or calls during the verification process.
According to the new policies of the messaging service, they must have a data plan that allows them to use WhatsApp when they do not have a WiFi connection.
How to check if the phone is compatible with WhatsApp 2021?
To find out what the phone’s operating system is, check in Device Settings.
In the case of Android, you must enter Settings and go to the System section. The Android version should appear there through a search with the magnifying glass.
On the iPhone you also have to go to Settings, enter General and click on Information, where you can verify the iOS version of the mobile.
